Sometimes my best effort falls short. My wish to watch every college bowl game has proved impossible. A commitment I could not complete, the first week I could keep pace with the schedule, the second week I had to use recorded games and view late into the nights, the third week, this week, I was overwhelmed. New Year’s Eve with four games, New Year’s Day with six games, this exceeded my endurance, my mind is numbed, my eyes are bloodshot, and I can no longer tell which game is on or what teams are playing. I need a shower. I need a change of clothes. I need to admit defeat.
The experiment is complete now; a conclusion is possible, human frailty will forever prevent any man from watching all televised college bowl games in the 3 weeks and 2 days available. A month ago some friends advised this would be foolish and impossible. I had to find out for myself.
There may be a super being with a support crew that could have watched all the games, perhaps if I still used drugs. It may be theoretically possible, something doable in the fertile human imagination, something waiting for better technology, Mount Everest waiting for Edmund Hillary.
I will wait for next winter’s college bowl series and try once more.
